About Us

We are located in south east Tasmania on acreage, our beloved ridgies are very much a part of our family where they have acres on which they can safely roam and are almost never chained or restricted in runs. Our passion for the Rhodesian Ridgeback began for us when James had his first ridgeback at the age of 17 after seeing them feature on Burkes Backyard, When we were settled as a family on acreage we then researched and put our names down with Freiborn Kennels (Dr Chris and Cathy Lee, now owners of Kingston Animal Hospital), we then were rewarded with our beautiful girl Kira in 1999, She soon became the best of friends with our then 2 year old son Storm, they roamed the paddocks and bushland together getting into much mischief, and we were pleasantly surprised with how gentle and easy to train around our baby daughter, Sky, (just three months old when Kira arrived) our new ridgie was.

Later we added Jani to our family, a very handsome girl, more outgoing than Kira, where Kira would walk beside and sit on our laps; Jani had more play and has brought much joy to our family. Later as our girl Kira got on in years we kept one of her Babies(Roan) from her last litter with Kimba. No matter her age, Roan will always be the baby, she will sook if you tickle her toes, and while if you tickle Kira, she will move her foot, and will keep moving it no matter how long you hassle her for, Jani will get up and move away from the anoyance, Roan though, will try to chew her foot to make it stop.

When my brother indicated an interest in having a male ridgeback of his own, we spent many hours researching and with some 2 years on a waiting list we finally added Tau to our extended ridgie family, he is a special boy, very loving and such a gentle soul, still young, he is growing into a handsome boy, who I am sure, when we finally get him into the show ring, will do very well.

Our interest in breeding started I guess, like most people would start out, we felt we had something very special, and wanted a part of sharing what we had with others, the rewarding sensation of sharing the wonderful relationships a well bred dog can bring to others is amazing. We do show the ridgies however our live’s are too full, and where we are located makes it difficult to make this a large part of our dogs lives, they also spend much time with us camping, bush walking and at the beach.

We are hoping soon to add another girl to our family, with our son Storm getting older, we would like for him to have a dog of his own, a dog he can build a relationship up with, as a one on one basis that will hopefully see him through his teenage years and into adulthood, as both of us had dogs of our own as teenagers, we feel this to be an experience that served us both well, while a family dog will love and protect the whole family, the relationship between one human and his dog is something different again.

We hope you enjoy exploring our site, feel free to leave comments in the guestbook and or contact us.
